From March through September, these adorable (but threatened) avians snuggle into depressions in the sand to lay their eggs and raise their chicks. You can help keep them and other shorebirds safe next time you’re enjoying some fun in the sun by keeping your four-legged friends on a leash, staying out of areas that are blocked off as bird nesting sites and keeping beaches clean by picking up trash that might attract plover predators.
