During MACNA, I was asked by Todd Kunkel of Champion lighting supply to come check out their booth.
Honestly, I didn’t think much of it and thought that the distributor wanted to talk about their product. When I went to the booth to check it out, I saw that it was adhesive product and the first thing on my mind was cyanoacrylate glue? Epoxy?
Boy I was wrong.
Night and day difference. The only similarity between the adhesives was that it is activated by water.
To me, this was one of the MOST surprising and single most innovative products that gets the most use by anyone in our hobby.
Fun facts:
Did you know that this is first new invention in the world of adhesives in DECADES?
The company was commissioned by NOAA to create a better glue for their coral restoration efforts, and they came up with using polymers (as well as calcium carbonate) found in bi-halves (mussels) to create this incredibly unique and extremely sturdy adhesive.
Honestly, applications for this product are limitless. Both to regular hobbyist and to commercial coral farmers, this will fit the bill for many folks. But no, it won’t end there, there will be greater use for this adhesive beyond the marine ornamental industry.
Check it out and let me know what you guys think and if you would try this in your own systems.
I look forward to seeing your comments down below.
