Lingcod (Ophiodon elongatus) are one of the quintessential fishes found from the nearshore to deeper waters in the North East Pacific. This time of year, males pick out nesting sites in rocky, surgy areas, and they’ll defend those sites once a female places a clutch in their care.

These fearsome ambush predators are commonly spotted in SCUBA depths around the Monterey Bay’s kelp forests‚ though at the Aquarium, lingcod require their own exhibit beyond the Kelp Forest to keep the pisces 😅
